BC Public Service situated in Kamloops, BC V2H 1B7 CA is currently looking for applications for the role of Commercial Transport Enforcement Officer who is a self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills. The selected candidate must start work promptly. This is a regular full-time position.

Job Description

  • The candidate will interpret and enforce compliance with acts, regulations, and Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance criteria that govern the road transportation industry, protect highway infrastructure, and ensure the safety of highway users.
  • The candidate will be responsible for advising operators of compliance issues, directing corrective measures, and providing options in non-compliant situations.
  • The candidate will be responsible for issuing violation tickets, notices and orders, drivers’ prohibitions, and vehicle impounds, including calculating fines.
  • The candidate will operate and maintain portable equipment, Vehicle Inspection Stations, and an emergency vehicle.
  • The candidate will conduct mechanical and safety checks on commercial vehicles for defects and general condition.
  • The candidate will be responsible for weighing, measuring, and inspecting vehicles and loads to ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, policy, and standards.
  • The candidate will be responsible for attending court as an expert witness when required and handling documents in accordance with rules of evidence.
  • The candidate will patrol and monitor highways and routes within the assigned geographic area.
  • The candidate will coordinate and participate in commercial vehicle roadside checks, including organizing workforce, inspection locations, traffic control, and submitting statistical reports.
  • The candidate will examine operator and commercial vehicle documents, including insurance, licenses, and permits, and monitor compliance.
  • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring public, operator, and personal safety at all times.
  • The candidate will plan, develop, and deliver training and seminars to enforcement agencies, CVSE staff, and stakeholders.
  • The candidate will be responsible for writing and submitting records and reports.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must have completed secondary school graduation or an equivalent qualification.
  • The candidate must have experience providing customer service.
  • The candidate must have experience interpreting and/or applying policy or procedures.
  • The candidate must hold a valid BC Class 5 (minimum) Driver’s Licence in good standing with no more than nine (9) points within the last five (5) year period and no suspensions or prohibitions.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with one (1) year or more of experience in Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and/or those who are Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance certified.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience in Road Transportation or Law Enforcement.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience interpreting and/or applying acts, regulations, or legislation.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience delivering and/or conducting presentations or seminars.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
